Shot At The Title: Marksmanship Tested In Cyprus Competition

Teams from across Cyprus have been competing in this year's Operational Shooting Competition at RAF Akrotiri.

The annual event tests teams on a whole range of scenarios, with the winners going forward to a national defence shooting event in the UK next month.

Traditionally the contest is most fierce between the two infantry battalions on the island - currently 2 Mercian and 2nd Battalion the Royal Anglians.

But also competing are a number of other units, from military police to soldiers deployed on UN Peacekeeping duties in Nicosia.

The event went on all day beneath the blazing Cyprus sun.

In the end, it was an all-Mercian final, with Team C1 taking top honours.

There to present the prizes was the Chief of Staff of British Forces Cyprus, Air Commodore Polly Perkins.

Picking up a number of awards, including best overall shot, was Sergeant Andrew Barr representing the Joint Service Signal Unit.

Other winners included Corporal Roshan Gurung in the attack and re-organisation test, with winners of the pistol shoot and best overall team going to the Cyprus National Guard.
