There will be police patrolling the RAF Scampton area this weekend in order to reassure the local community.

Police are patrolling the former RAF Scampton site after a suspected petrol bomb was discovered.

Lincolnshire Police said the bomb was found "intact" near the perimeter fence around the base on Tuesday, 3 October.

"We are giving this the attention it needs," Superintendent Lee Pache said.

The Home Office has plans to house up to 2,000 asylum seekers at the RAF Scampton site, with reports claiming that the first group is expected to arrive within weeks.

In August, the plans to move the migrants were delayed.

The Prime Minister's press secretary, at the time, said: "Work is ongoing to open [the] site at Scampton and we want that work to be done as soon as possible."

Lincolnshire Police has said there will be police patrolling the area this weekend in order to reassure the local community.

Supt Lee Pache added: "We recognise that this will be concerning to the local community, and want to assure you that we are giving this the attention it needs.

"We're liaising with the Home Office which owns and operates the site as part of our investigation."
