RAF Northolt Exercises Freedom of Hillingdon

Royal Air Force Northholt exercised its Freedom of Hillingdon as part of the RAF centenary celebrations.

A full RAF marching band led the Queen's colour Squadron from RAF Northolt as they paraded through the streets of Hillingdon, Uxbridge.

Locals turned out to support the RAF despite the wind and rain.

The Air Force has been situated at the nearby base for over 100 years and have a strong affiliation with Hillingdon.

Group Captain Mike Carver, Station Commander at RAF Northolt, addressed the crowd, saying: “What an honour it is to march in your streets in the RAF’s 100 year. There is no better way to form relationships and friendships.

“I’d like to thank you on behalf of a very grateful station.”

Flight Lieutenant Emily Lock, Operations Flight Commander at RAF Northolt, added: “It just means a huge amount.

“It shows the support we get from the local community and it shows not only how much we value them but also we’re valued by them as well.”
