A Royal Air Force Typhoon has hit a bird in Scotland.

After taking off from RAF Lossiemouth, the fighter jet struck the bird before returning to base.

The incident is believed to have taken place on Monday afternoon.

An MOD spokesperson told Forces News that the Typhoon's return to base was part of "normal safety procedures".

"There was no risk posed to either the aircraft or pilot," they continued.

Situated on the Scottish coast in Moray, RAF Lossiemouth is home to four fast-jet squadrons flying the Typhoon, and is undergoing a £75m runway upgrade.
