An investigation is underway after a laser beam was shone at an aircraft undertaking night training at RAF Honington.

The light was directed from the ground, in the area of Ixworth, towards the C-17 on Wednesday 11 September.

Officials from the base have stressed the dangers of laser light, especially when aircraft are flying at night and at low level.

"Such laser light can cause a hazard to the safety of the aircraft and crew not only as a distraction but also potential to cause flash blindness.

"Think driving towards a car with full beam on driving towards you whilst you are wearing a mask that amplifies the light being received."
