Runs In The Family: Meet The Father And Son Who Have Commanded The King's Troop

They say sometimes talent runs in the family, and this is certainly true for the Wallaces.

Malcolm and Harry are the only father and son to have both held the role of Commanding Officer of the King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery and they are also both keen horse riders.

They know what it means to juggle the pomp and ceremony of the King's Troop with the thrills and spills of the racetrack - "different horses for courses", as Harry puts it.

Last weekend, Major Harry Wallace was in charge of the King's Troop as they fired a royal salute in Hyde Park, before competing in the McCreery Military riders hurdle race at Wincanton.

His father Malcolm, who was watching on both occasions, was also Commanding Officer of the King's Troop 25 years ago.

Off-duty, he was also a keen jockey, enjoying success on the military circuit.

He remains the last serving officer to ride in the Grand National in 1984.
