
Spitfire crashes in field near RAF Coningsby

A Spitfire has crashed in a field close to RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, according to unconfirmed reports.
RAF Coningsby is the home of the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, but it's not known if the aircraft belonged to them.
A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson said it is believed to be a "single occupant aircraft" and nobody else is thought to have been involved.
Motorists have been asked to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
Emergency crews are at the scene.
An iconic Second World War fighter plane, the Spitfire is celebrated for its crucial role in the Battle of Britain.
The aircraft is understood to have been involved in the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight when it did not land at RAF Coningsby.
An RAF spokesperson said: "We are aware of an incident in the vicinity of RAF Coningsby involving an RAF aircraft.
"We are working with the emergency services and supporting those involved. An update will be provided in due course."
The Ministry of Defence has also asked any witness or those with any imagery of the incident to not post it online, and instead contact the police on 101, quoting incident 221.
