The US Department of Defense say the aircraft's arrival and future training is evidence of the United States' commitment to European regional security.

Raptor Redeploy is funded in part by the European Deterrence Initiative.

Earlier this year, it was announced that RAF Lakenheath will benefit from nearly $150 million of investment to prepare the station for the arrival of the USAF F35-A.

Although an RAF station, Lakenheath hosts USAF units and personnel, the host wing being the 48th Fighter Wing.
