Personnel from RAF Akrotiri pulled a 1300kg Field Gun over 10km of rough terrain to raise money for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.

The British Forces Cyprus (BFC) Field Gun Crew completed the route around RAF Akrotiri in 1 hour and 39 minutes.

Pulling 1300kg is difficult, and even more so when mixed with sand, steep inclines and the relentless Cyprus sun.

The charity pull is also a small reminder and insight into  the events that unfolded during the Second Boer War when sailors from the Naval Brigade carried the guns over very difficult terrain.

The BFC Field Gun Crew are currently on a  winning streak after a fantastic performance at the prestigious Brickwoods Competition earlier this year where the team took home the Plate 1 victory.

The annual Brickwoods Competition is a long-standing tradition in the Royal Navy, spanning more than a century.

The competition sees a crew of 18 personnel run with and assemble an antique gun replica weighing in excess of 1300kg (2,866lbs).
