Former Army medics reunite at old Osnabruck base in Germany
For the first time since the closure of the Army's Osnabruck Garrison in 2009, British soldiers who were once stationed there have returned to the north German city.
Former members of Two Armoured Field Ambulance have reunited at the site of their old base – a place that used to be called Roberts Barracks.
From 1977 to 2000, Roberts Barracks was home to Two Armoured Field Ambulance – there is no British garrison there now but it once made up nearly a tenth of the city's population.
Roberts Barracks is boosting the economy once again, now resurrected as a business park.
The site's buildings have been refurbished, others are still being worked on, and many have been replaced.
A sign now informs passersby that there was once a military base there.
The first-time reunion brought back memories for the former Army medics, no matter how different the old barracks look now.
Peter Doyle, who was stationed in Roberts Barracks from 1993 to 1997, said: "I still live in Osnabruck. I still see it. I still miss it every time I drive by."
Reunion organiser Alan Legge, a former Army medic, highlighted the "beauty" of the reunion.
He said: "It's a merging of all sorts of different emotions and feelings, really, and that's the great thing about bringing people back, especially for a military reunion.
"That's the beauty of it. Because once we meet, we just get on straight away."
