The Red Arrows have touched down in Greenwood, Nova Scotia, to kick off their highly anticipated Canadian tour.

The RAF acrobatic team, marking their 60th Diamond Season, have been invited by the Royal Canadian Air Force to tour across six cities in celebration of its centenary.

"We hope that thousands of Canadians will be inspired by the Red Arrows' display of teamwork and talent," said Brigadier Edward Sandry OBE.

The Canadian tour, named Maple Hawk, will see the Red Arrows perform four flypasts in iconic locations, free for the public to enjoy.

The locations are Niagara Falls, the Old Port of Montreal, the harbour of St John's, and central Ottawa.

Following the jets' arrival, the Red Arrows will take to the skies to perform their full acrobatic display at Air Show Atlantic, marking the team's first public appearance as part of Maple Hawk.

"The Maple Hawk tour aims to highlight the strong bond between our two nations' militaries," said Brig Sandry.

Having taken off in 1964, this year the Red Arrows celebrate their 60th anniversary with a special Diamond Season of aerial displays.

The Red Arrows routine changes every year and this year a new nine-aircraft show will mark the milestone season.

The nine-aircraft formation resembles a diamond, to match the name of the season.
