Duchess of Cornwall attends return of the Rifles Sounding Retreat

The Duchess of Cornwall has attended The Rifles Sounding Retreat at Horse Guards Parade in London.

Camilla, who is Colonel-in-Chief of The Rifles, was joined by the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester for an evening that featured military music and pageantry that told the history of The Rifles regiment, from the Napoleonic era to modern times.

The Duchess took over the role from the late Prince Philip, in July 2020.

Before the event began, the Duchess met privately with bereaved families of personnel killed in operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

About 500 veterans who served in the conflicts attended the ceremony.

It has been six years since the event last took place and the evening ended with the song "You Will Never Walk Alone" – honouring all those involved in the wars.
