
Duchess of Edinburgh visits Queen's Own Yeomanry reservists in Cumbria

The Duchess of Edinburgh has paid a visit to soldiers from The Queen's Own Yeomanry as they trained in Cumbria.
Sophie is the Royal Colonel of the Army Reserve unit, and visited them as they were put through their paces at Warcop Training Area.
In a post on Instagram, the Royal Family shared images of her visit as personnel sharpened their skills.
After watching the exercise, she met and spoke to the reservists to learn more about their work.
QOY, which was formed in 1971, operates in front of other forces to gather intelligence on the enemy and environment.
Sophie's affiliation with the light cavalry regiment it is not her only military link.
She became the Royal Colonel of 5th Battalion The Rifles in 2007, visiting them in Afghanistan and Germany.
Her Royal Highness is also the Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Corps of Army Music and Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps, which was recently amalgamated into the Royal Army Medical Service.
In 2022, she became the new Colonel-in-Chief of the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME), taking over the role held by Prince Philip for more than 50 years.
The Duchess also holds two military positions in Canada, serving as the Colonel in-Chief of The South Alberta Light Horse and Colonel-in-Chief of the Lincoln and Welland Regiment.
