Members of the Royal Air Force have been paid a visit by the King of Spain while they were taking part in a multinational exercise in the country.

The personnel met King Felipe VI during his visit to the Llanos Air Base in Albacete.

"During the visit, His Majesty King Felipe VI viewed the facilities and met British and French pilots who'd returned from a training mission," said the RAF.

The RAF tweeted images of the encounter between pilots and His Majesty, who also posed for pictures with the UK personnel in front of some of the aircraft on the base.

King Felipe VI is the Commander-in-Chief of all the armed forces in Spain.

Llanos Air Base hosts the Tactical Leadership Programme, which involves aircrew from several Nato member countries.
