The Grenadier Guards Band performed at the ceremony, while Nato representatives were also present.

The squadron is a unique sub-unit that brings the Royal Signals into the centre of Nato.

Major William Higgins, Officer Commanding, emphasised the squadron's pride in its association with Wimborne.

Maj Higgins said: "The town has consistently honoured our soldiers on their return from operational deployments to conflict zones such as Afghanistan, Iraq, and across Europe, such as the Balkans, with heartfelt medal parades and, because of this, our sense of service is that much stronger."

The squadron has deep ties with the town as it supported the 80th D-Day anniversary, and organises Remembrance Sunday parades, including the World War One centenary in 2018.

Beyond the ceremonial duties, 280 (Nato) Sig Sqn is getting ready to be deployed in support of the Nato Mission – Iraq (NMI), where 13 personnel will lead the Signal Support Group.

This role involves managing all of Nato's communication systems in Iraq and helping counter-terrorism efforts alongside the Iraqi government.

Cadets, veterans, and residents attended the freedom parade, creating a memorable experience for the soldiers, and demonstrated the enduring bond between the squadron and Wimborne.
