Bernard Cribbins relives days as paratrooper

He is one of Britain's national treasures but actor and comedian Bernard Cribbens OBE was also a paratrooper.

During his two years in the Paras, Bernard spent time in Palestine, where his unit regularly came under fire.

A training report at the time described him as a good performer, a label which served him well as he launched his showbiz career.

The star of Carry On films and Dr Who was a guest of the Parachute Regiment after raising money for the welfare of injured Paras and their families.

The 87-year-old handed over a cheque for £17,000 to the Regiment's official charity, SUPPORT OUR PARAS.
