HMS Agamemnon arrives back at Faslane following her first round of sea trials

Newest Astute-class submarine returns to Faslane

The Royal Navy's newest Astute-class nuclear-powered submarine has returned to her home port in Scotland.

HMS Agamemnon has arrived back at HM Naval Base Clyde at Faslane after her first round of sea trials before active service.

The 97-metre submarine, nicknamed 'Awesome Aggie', will be armed with heavyweight Spearfish torpedoes and Tomahawk land-attack missiles, capable of striking targets more than 1,000 miles away.

HMS Agamemnon's role will be to safeguard submarines carrying the UK's nuclear deterrent from interference by adversaries.
