King Charles welcomed by Royal Bahamas Defence Force at start of Caribbean tour

King Charle spoke to members of the RBDF and RBPF

King Charles has been warmly welcomed by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) and the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) who provided a guard of honour and extended a Royal Salute at Lynden Pindling International Airport.

With the sun shining brightly, His Majesty started his nine-day tour of three Caribbean countries on New Providence island, near the capital city of Nassau, listening to the men and women of the RBDF and the RBPF perform March On, Bahamaland, the national anthem of archipelagic country, after which he inspected the guard of honour.

His Majesty took some time to speak with members of the RBDF and RBPF who looked resplendent in their white ceremonial uniforms.

The RBDF is tasked with defending the sovereignty of the Bahamas, helping to maintain law and order and performing humanitarian tasks.

The King was received at the foot of the aircraft steps by Celest Evans-Williams, Acting Chief of Protocol, before meeting Dame Cynthia Pratt, the Governor-General of The Bahamas, Prime Minister Philip E Davis, Commodore Floyd Moxey, Commander of the RBDF, Frederick A Mitchell, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, and Shanta Knowles, the Commissioner of Police.

Next, the King visited the Future Bahamas Youth Rally and Exhibition at Clifford Park, an historic site where the country gained its Independence in 1973.

More than 50 years ago, the then Prince of Wales attended the independence celebrations to deliver a message from his mother, the Queen, to the people of the Bahamas.

After the performances, members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Rangers, Royal Bahamas Police Force Cadets and National Youth Guard paraded carrying flags from the Family Islands.
