Tributes have been paid to a former Royal Marine who was forced to swim for his life after the disastrous Dieppe commando raid of the Second World War.

Alan Saunders, just 19 at the time, had to stay in the water for five hours after coming under enemy fire.

He died last week at the age of 92.
