Cameron Chairs COBRA Meeting Over British Hostage

Downing Street has, this morning, confirmed that it is aware that Islamic State militants are holding a British hostage.

It comes in the wake of a video, released yesterday, purporting to show a British Jihadist beheading the American journalist, Steven Sotloff.

In the same video, the militant also threatens to kill a British hostage, the family of the man have asked the media not to release his name.

Meanwhile the Prime Minister is chairing a meeting of the Government's COBRA committee to discuss these latest developments.

Our reporter Tim Cooper is at Westminister.

Speaking after today's COBRA meeting, the Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said Britain will look at "every possible option" to protect the British hostage whose life has been threatened by Islamist militants.
