Duke of Edinburgh hands Nato medals to Scots Guards for deployment to Kosovo

Scots Guards get Nato honour for service in Kosovo

The Duke of Edinburgh has presented Nato operational service medals to soldiers from 1st Battalion, the Scots Guards at Catterick Garrison following their two-month deployment to Kosovo on Operation Elgin.

The Nato peacekeeping mission saw personnel patrol at the administrative boundary line, train Latvian troops in public order and riot control methods, and observe illegal smuggling routes.

It was a short-term deployment, but a longer-term commitment as the Scots Guards still holds responsibility until New Year's Day – which means the soldiers could redeploy to Kosovo, if required, over Christmas.
