High Fliers Get Their Wings
The Army helicopter pilots of tomorrow have made a big leap forward, marked with a parade and an Apache role demonstration.
Officers and Senior Non-Commisioned Officers on the Army Pilots Course have graduated from the Operational Training Phase.
It takes two years for student Army Air Corps pilots to complete the army pilot course.
The Minister For The Reserves, Julian Brazier, was invited to inspect the graduating pilots at the museum of Army flying.
"I felt hugely honoured to be with these brave young men... who have spent the past two or three years doing some of the most difficult and testing training that's available anywhere in the world and have come through it and succeeded. I was really impressed with them."
Like any other branch of the British Army, Army Air Corps officers need essential qualities like courage, discipline and integrity.
An additional characteristic of being willing to learn, along with an eagerness to put skills and training into practice is crucial.
The list of aircraft the Army Air Corps fly is pretty exciting...
- Apache
- Lynx Mk 7 & Lynx Mk9A
- Gazelle
- Bell 212
- Squirrel
- Defender
- Wildcat
