King's Life Guard duties handed back to Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment
Kings Life Guard duties at Horse Guards Parade in central London have today been handed back to the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment.
The Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery had been looking after the role for the past three weeks – they do so every summer, while the Household Cavalry escapes London to conduct important regimental training.
This year, while away from the capital, the Household Cavalry also had to contend with 'one-off' ceremonial activities in Scotland, as part of the King's coronation.
At today's guard change, the brown horses from the King's Troop lined up alongside the larger black horses of the Household Cavalry, giving spectators who braved the rain a unique opportunity to see a guard change that only happens once a year.
The King's Troop will not be on guard duties there again until next summer.
