A Royal Day To Remember For Dragoons

THIS REPORT CONTAINS FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY

His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent has visited the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (SCOTS DG) at their barracks in Leuchars.

He met with soldiers to learn more about their new role and to see improvements to their base.

This is the first time the Duke, as Deputy Colonel in Chief of the regiment has visited the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards since they relocated from Germany.

His Royal Highness commissioned as an officer into the SCOTS DG's antecedent regiment, the Royal Scots Greys and served with them for more than 20 years.

Lt Col Dominic Coombes, CO of SCOTS DG said:
"It's brilliant to have him come back to the family. Things have moved on a bit since his time when he was serving so it's brilliant that we can bring him up to speed on what we're doing and especially our role as light cavalry and being here in Leuchars which are two fabulous things for the regiment."

The Duke officially opened the new Corporals Mess before having lunch with military personnel and their families. Lt Col Dominic Coombes said:
"His opening of the Corporal’s Mess is hugely significant as yet another step in cementing our roots in Leuchars and demonstrating our commitment to Fife and the local community. This is our home and we are delighted to be here.”
