Scottish Troops Deploy To Afghanistan
Troops from the Royal Highland Fusilliers, the 2nd Battalion the Royal Regiment of Scotland, have left their barracks to start their tour in Afghanistan.
More than 400 troops will deploy in two phases over the next eight months, in support of NATO personnel in Kabul and the Afghan National Army officer academy.
Forces TV's Ali Gibson spoke to the Commanding Officer of the Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Graeme Wearmouth, and asked him to explain more about their role in Op Toral.
He said:
“This is a great opportunity for us. We’re a light-role infantry battalion taking up a mechanised role with the use of the Foxhound vehicle.
“Many members of the battalion have previously deployed to Afghanistan in combat roles. This is a completely different mission for us and a lot of work has gone into training and preparing the soldiers for this deployment.”
