D-Day Veteran Opens Royal Marines Reserve Centre

Ken Parker's last trip on a Royal Marines' boat was to the beaches of Normandy on D-Day.

This time he was whisked across the water as guest of honour to open a new base at Devonport for the Bristol branch of the Royal Marines Reserve (RMR)'s Plymouth detachment.

Local MP Johnny Mercer, who served as a captain in 29 Commando Battalion, Royal Artillery before he turned to politics, was there to help unveil the plaque at the Walcheren building, named after the battle in which Ken fought as as young marine.

The RMR Plymouth detachment is working hard to hone its skills before heading for Germany, where troops will be showing the commandant general what they can achieve.
