Devonport's Tigger, Still Bouncing After 45 Years

Devonport Naval Base may have changed over the years, warships coming and going, new buildings and new squadrons. One man has been there throughout.
Wharf Master Dave Trigger has been employed in the MOD civil service for 45 years.
The Devonport Wharfmaster – affectionately known as 'Tigger' is one of the civilian work force that play a key role in the smooth running of Western Europe's largest dockyard.
"It's still a vibrant place, still keeps me going, still makes me want to get out of bed and get the job done."
Dave started working for the MOD Civil Service in 1971 – the same year Devonport built its final ship, HMS Scylla.
He has done his bit elsewhere in the MoD. He measured up officers for uniforms - including Prince Charles, and was also a museum curator and store keeper.
In 2006 he received an MBE from the Queen for his services to the MOD.
Today he's mostly found on the wharf's with the riggers bringing home the Navy's warships or seeing them off.
He's hard to miss in a one off hi-vis jacket that features a nickname with a story behind it.
"One of my ladies who made business cards for me misspelled my name. It's only when I was actually handing my card to the Second Sea Lord that I actually noticed... Tigger stuck after that."
