Fleet Air Arm rallies round to help veteran diagnosed with motor neurone disease

Members of the Fleet Air Arm are rallying to help a Royal Navy veteran who has motor neurone disease.
Two years after finishing a 23-year career in the Navy, Jon Over found out he had the rare incurable condition affecting the brain and nervous system, limiting movement and key body functions over time.
Mr Over's friends are now raising funds to help him, his wife Marie and their two daughters overcome the challenges that come with managing the disease.
During his time in the Royal Navy, Mr Over mostly served at Yeovilton air station with 815 and 825 Naval Air Squadrons, where he first maintained Lynx helicopters and then later worked on the Wildcat.
While at Yeovilton, he was himself a committed fundraiser, as well as actively participating in several Fleet Air Arm and Navy sports teams.
Now his former colleagues want to repay his generosity and community spirit.
When loyal friend Chief Petty Officer Dan "Whisky" Walker heard about his diagnosis with MND, he was determined to support him.
"Jon's someone who has always been willing to give back to the community," said CPO Walker.
"He is a truly selfless person who has done so much for so many people - kind, caring and full of compassion, a true friend to us all, always there in your hour of need, going above and beyond for anyone."
Fundraising efforts
Mr Over's friends and former colleagues have already raised more than £16,000 - initially to help him buy a specialised wheelchair and enjoy time away with his family to create lasting memories while he still can.
But more funds will be needed, in particular when the time comes to relocate from the family home as the disease progresses.
Friends and family are planning to run the Brighton marathon, climb Lake District peaks, complete a cross-channel swim and organise a golfing event to top up the fund, with the hope of making a difference to Mr Over and his family.
Anyone wanting to contribute can do so here.
