HMS Trent crew sharpens chainsaw skills during Turks and Caicos Islands disaster training

HMS Trent's embarked crisis response troop from 24 Commando Royal Engineers have been training alongside the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) Regiment.

They have been developing their chainsaw skills alongside medical training as they prepare to respond to any future emergencies. 

The TCI Regiment is the British Overseas Territory's home defence unit.

Formed in 2020, it is a reserve unit of the British Armed Forces made up of infantry and engineers.

HMS Trent is currently visiting the Turks and Caicos Islands as part of the UK's ongoing commitment to supporting disaster preparedness, resilience and security across the Caribbean.

To strengthen disaster response across the Islands, the Royal Navy's 700X Naval Air Squadron demonstrated drones that can quickly assess damage after an emergency.

This capability can give first responders an early picture of affected areas, helping identify where support is needed most and enabling resources to be prioritised quickly.

Members of HMS Trent's ship's company also joined forces with the TCI Regiment and inmates from HMP Grand Turk for a hands-on community project at Eliza Simons Primary School.

With the new school year approaching, the teams rolled up their sleeves to help get classrooms ready for students – painting, refreshing spaces and tackling practical jobs across the school.
