Royal Navy Announces First Wave Of New Breed Of Engineers

The first group of Royal Navy engineers to have completed a new course giving them extra hands-on training are set to join ships across the fleet.

Those on the course were given the chance to physically practice their skills before joining a ship.

They also trained on simulators which replicate the engine compartments and operations rooms of Navy ships.

“Each one of the changes that were made to the course will not only benefit our young technicians but will also ripple out with them as they join their first ships. Each one of our Marine Engineers should be very proud of their achievements in passing out today,” said Captain Trevor Gulley ADC, Commanding Officer of HMS Sultan.

The course takes sailors on after their basic ten-week training package and gives them an extra 30 weeks - giving them the chance to work with engines based on ships across the fleet, from those in minehunter vessels to state-of-the-art Type 45 destroyers.
