Royal Navy Cancer Veteran's Incredible Challenge

A former Royal Navy commander with terminal brain cancer has completed an incredible challenge.

He's swum the equivalent of the English Channel in relay, something he did on his own 30 years ago.

Commodore Laurie Brokenshire was joined by his family as he entered the water at Foy, in Cornwall, and together they made dry land at Plymouth to raise more than £30,000 for charities close to all their hearts.

They called the mammoth swim ABC – A Broken Shire Clan - and it was all about the thirties: 30 miles, 30 years since Laurie's solo English Channel swim, and a fundraising target of £30,000.

Supported by the Royal Marines of 1 Assault Group with a landing craft and safety boat, they also had a team of kayakers and a lifeguard on hand to make sure the day went swimmingly.
