Royal Navy officer runs over a marathon a day in Land's End to John O'Groats challenge

A Royal Navy officer has run more than 1,000 miles in five weeks to raise money for the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) and Alabaré, a homelessness charity assisting veterans.
Lieutenant Commander Alex Miles ran from Land's End to John O'Groats, completing more than the length of a marathon each day.
And he even battled illness during his challenge as, during the second week, Lt Cdr Miles had to overcome a mystery virus which saw him suffering from extreme fatigue and uncontrollable shivering.
Taking place over 37 days, the route was designed by Run Britannia and included a total elevation of more than 70,000ft covering trails in England, Wales and Scotland.
Lt Cdr Miles, who joined the Royal Navy in 1999, said his goal is to raise £5,000 for his chosen charities.

He called his epic run "one of the most challenging, yet rewarding, experiences of my life... for causes which are close to my heart".
"As a serving member of the Royal Navy, I know how fundamental the support from RNRMC is, whether that’s assisting in times of bereavement, financial difficulty or homelessness, the charity is there for all members of the naval community," he said.
