Royal Navy Warship Helps Rescue Stranded Yacht
HMS Echo has helped rescue a stranded yacht that was being battered by strong winds off the south coast.

The Royal Navy ship worked alongside the RNLI and Solent Coast Guard station to aid the yacht which was in distress and unable to make headway in strong winds.

The Plymouth-based warship was conducting survey operations in the English channel when it heard the distress call from the struggling yacht to the Solent Coast Guard.

The yacht was being hammered by 40 knot squalls as it attempted to cross Lyme Bay.

HMS Echo passed the information onto the Coast Guard who dispatched an inshore RNLI lifeboat from Teignmouth.

The Royal Navy survey ship headed toward the yacht and its crew continued providing information to the RNLI allowing the vessel to be found quickly.

HMS Echo was launched in 2002 and was designed to carry out a wide range of survey work, including supporting submarines and amphibious operations.
