Tech-heavy Type 45 destroyer shows the human side of Carrier Strike Group 25

The Destroyer's crew line up on deck

HMS Dauntless has released a striking video from the heart of Carrier Strike Group 25, with a drone video showing the ship's company lined up on deck.

The overhead footage, posted to Instagram, shows the crew arranged in uniformed blocks across the upper deck.

The Commanding Officer and heads of department are positioned in front of the deck gun, with the officers to starboard and warrant officers and senior rates to port.

Junior rates stand on either side of the missile silo, while members of the Standing Sea Emergency Party (SSEP) are stationed on the bridge, wearing coloured surcoats to show their emergency roles - from medical to fire and engineering.

The short clip highlights the people behind one of the Royal Navy's most advanced air defence destroyers, currently deployed alongside HMS Prince of Wales as part of the UK's latest carrier strike group mission.

HMS Dauntless is a Type 45 destroyer, designed to shield the task group from air threats using her Sea Viper missile system and radar.

She can shoot down cruise missiles, fighter jets and uncrewed drones, and is capable of firing eight missiles in less than 10 seconds, hitting targets more than 70 miles away.

What we know about the vessels making up CSG 25

As part of her deployment on CSG25 HMS Dauntless recently carried out an air defence exercise where she reached speeds of around to 30 knots, showing that she can protect the task force at speed.

Caarrier Strike Group 25 set sail on its almost eight-month deployment in April.

CSG25, also known as Operation Highmast, will see personnel carry out sea, air and land exercises across the globe, spanning from the Mediterranean to the Middle East and Indo-Pacific.
