Bournemouth Air Festival Off To Flying Start

The Bournemouth Air Festival got underway this morning.

This was very much a tri-service event, with strong contingents from the British Army, Royal Air Force and out in the English Channel, the Royal Navy.

Type 23 frigate, HMS Monmouth and RFA Argus were the star attractions off dry land.

Dazzling in the sky were the Red Arrows, Blades Aerobatic Team, two Wildcats and a Merlin to name but a few.

This year's flying will mark five years since Red Arrows pilot Flt Lt Jon Egging died at the event.

As Red Arrows Pilot Red Four, Jon crashed after completing a display in 2011.

His mother Dawn – who now helps young people achieve, in Jon's name, told Tim Cooper how she was feeling.
