Forces Teams Take On Nature... And Win

Forces personnel from across the UK have descended on the Scottish Highlands this week to take part in the Rothiemurchus Challenge.

The adventure training competition saw 14 teams from across the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Marines and Royal Air Force take on a gruelling route.

It was a chance for them to enjoy the stunning scenery, but also to use some of their military skills like navigation, leadership and teamwork.

Now in its second year, the challenge consists of a 15-kilometre bike ride, a 13-kilomere hill walk or run, and open water canoeing.

There are also mental challenges, as well as the weather and terrain to deal with.

The top three spots were closely contested, but it was the reservists who came out on top: the Royal Marines Reserve Scotland had an exceptional time of 3 hours 44 minutes.

They were closely followed by the Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry, with 3:51, and 225 Medical Regiment with 4:13.
