Former RAF Interpreter Stranded in Iraq

Kristian Nicholson served in the Royal Air Force as an interpreter. He was involved in a fatal road traffic accident in Iraq and was imprisoned with his passport confiscated. After paying the dead man's family $70,000 he was released from prison.

Despite this he has not had his passport returned to him and is now stranded in Iraq despite British nationals being asked to leave the country.

An FCO spokesperson said:

“We are aware of an incident involving a British national in Erbil, Iraq. We are providing consular assistance.”

Hannah King went to speak to his family.
