NATO's 3 Most Advanced Combat Fighters On Exercise Together
The Royal Air Force, United States Air Force and the French Air Force are participating in the inaugural Trilateral Exercise at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia. The exercise gives fighter pilots the opportunity to train together in realistic counter-air and strike scenarios.
"I would feel very confident having a squadron of Typhoon's out there helping me." - USAF Airman.
More than 170 RAF personnel are involved in the exercise along with Typhoons from XI Squadron based at RAF Coningsby.
Hosted by the 1st FW (Fighter Wing), the drills focus on integrated operations.
The aim is to gain an understanding of the required tactics, techniques, procedures as well as logistics with fighting in a highly-contested scenario made of layered long-range air defences.
Typhoons from XI Sqn have been flying with French Rafales and US Air Force F-22 Raptors.
According to U.S. Air Force Col. Pete Fesler, the commander of the 1st FW: “The RAF and FrAF are our vital strategic partners and allies in the current fight against extremism, and will be in any foreseeable future conflict,” said Fesler. “The trilateral exercise gives us an opportunity to train together in realistic counter-air and strike scenarios. This training is critical to ensure that we have day-one interoperability for future contingency operations.”
