Thousands of supplies flown by RAF Globemaster for Gaza
A Royal Air Force C-17 Globemaster has helped transport 23 tonnes of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, after flying the load to Egypt.
The Globemaster has become the fourth UK aircraft to land in Al Arish, Egypt, whilst transporting vital supplies which will be transferred onward to Gaza. The aircraft landed on Thursday.
The plane carried supplies, including 4,500 blankets and 4,500 sleeping mats for distribution by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to the people affected by the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. Currently, a cease-fire has been agreed upon by both sides.
The RAF has always played an important role in delivering humanitarian aid to people living in conflict zones all across the world.
Defence Secretary Grant Shapps said: "The RAF continues to deliver on the UK's commitment to helping those in need by operating flights into the region to provide urgent humanitarian support which will save civilian lives.
"The UK is driving international efforts to support the humanitarian response in Gaza, working closely alongside partners and allies to de-escalate the situation."
