RAF Red Arrows Get A Visit From Lincoln's FA Cup Heroes

Players from Lincoln City football club have been getting tips on teamwork and formations from the Red Arrows as they try to pull off one of the greatest shocks in FA Cup history.

Players Paul Farman and Terry Hawkridge arrived at the squadran’s home of RAF Scampton, with FA Cup in tow.

The Imps will be taking on Arsenal in the famous cup tomorrow after becoming the first non-league side in more than a century to reach the quarter finals of the competition while also sitting atop of their league.

Squadron Leader David Montenegro, Red 1 and Team Leader, said:

"It was a real pleasure to host some of the Lincoln City players this week as their tremendous Cup run has captivated the city of Lincoln and indeed underlines the magic of the FA Cup."

"Although their Cup run has engaged the country, it is their league form which has been really impressive to observe, as maintaining such a high standard over a long season clearly shows that they are a very well-organised team."

The footballers got a tour of the aircraft hangar, meeting pilots engineers and support staff of the match at the Emirates Stadium in London.

Squadron Leader Montenegro said:

"Chatting to the players, we discussed many similarities between our respective teams – we both strive for and demand high performance throughout the year and to achieve this requires strong leadership, management and brilliant teamwork."

"Interestingly, both teams spend hours in our respective coaching/briefing rooms going through digital recordings of our performances so that balanced and critical analysis can be used to strive for perfection or, in the case of Lincoln City, to keep winning."

"As a lifelong Spurs fan, I am dreaming of an Imps vs Spurs FA Cup final! We wish them the best of luck for the quarter-final match and all of their remaining league fixtures which I am sure will propel the side back into the league."

The Red Arrows, who showcase the excellence of the Royal Air Force and represent the United Kingdom at home and overseas, are currently carrying out winter training at the Lincolnshire base ahead of the 2017 display season.
