RAF's Best To Perform At Cosford Air Show

With some air shows and displays around the country being cancelled or hampered due to security, safety and financial reasons, there is good news for aircraft enthusiasts as the RAF's Cosford Airshow 2017 will be going ahead this summer.

Despite foggy conditions, Forces News has been given a small glimpse of what's to come at the RAF's only official air show.

Wing Commander Chris Jones, chairman of the RAF Cosford Air Show 2017, said: "It's the only day of the year where we open our gates with open arms to the society we recruit from.

"I think it's really important they can come and see the RAF capabilities that we can demonstrate to them."

All of the RAF's display teams are set to fly at the show, including the Red Arrows in their nine Hawk jets, the RAF Falcons and a solo Typhoon display.

There will also be a 60th anniversary of the Battle of Britain memorial flight with a Lancaster Bomber and four Spitfires.

As well as aviation displays, there will be static demonstrations and activities for the public.

The show is centred around three main themes - space, battlefield support and international cooperation.

The viability of air shows has been tested recently after disasters like Shoreham.   Some cancellations this year include Great Yarmouth Air Show due to spiralling safety costs and RNAS Culdrose due to staff shortages.

RAF Cosford Air Show takes place on Sunday 11 June 2017, where around 60,000 people are expected to attend.
