Service Inquiry Into Tragic Helicopter Accident Rules Out Enemy Action
An inquiry into a Lynx helicopter crash that killed five British servicemen in Afghanistan has branded it a tragic accident.
However, the Military Aviation Authority report has made 33 recommendations after it found “procedural drift” in a squadron that was “under-resourced for its task”.
The Lynx came down in Kandahar Province in April last year.
Captain Thomas Clarke, Warrant Officer Spencer Faulkner and Corporal James Walters, all of the Army Air Corps (AAC), were serving as the Lynx aircraft's three-man team when they died.
They lost their lives together with Flight Lieutenant Rakesh Chauhan, of the Royal Air Force, and Lance Corporal Oliver Thomas, of the Intelligence Corps, who were believed to have been passengers on the flight.
James Hirst has been looking at the findings of the Service Inquiry.
