Personnel on board a Royal Australian Air Force jet have been given a warm welcome when they arrived in Great Britain by personnel at RAF Lossiemouth.

While journeying back home after the successful completion of their latest deployment to Germany, personnel from the Australian Armed Forces travelling on a Boeing E-7 Wedgetail aircraft landed at the Scottish air base and were greeted by members of the Royal Air Force.

"A warm Team Lossie welcome to our friends from Down Under," wrote RAF Lossiemouth on social media.

The E-7 Wedgetail is an advanced aircraft which is based on the Boeing 737NG airliner.

However, the aircraft is modified to carry a sophisticated Northrop Grumman active electronically scanned radar.

An Australian Wedgetail aircraft was recently involved in Exercise Sentry Aloha which took place earlier this year in Hawaii.
