Oh deer! Royal Marines suffer Norwegian traffic jam

Watch: The deer were in no hurry to move out of the way.

Members of 45 Commando Royal Marines have been caught up in a bizarre traffic jam on their morning commute in Norway.

In a video posted by UK Commando Force Operations, the path of the personnel was blocked by a large herd of reindeer.

The commandos are in Norway ahead of Nato's biggest Arctic exercise in a generation, Exercise Nordic Response.

The Royal Navy said that "more than 20,000 Nato troops, 50 warships, submarines and other vessels and more than 110 fighter jets, helicopters and other aircraft will take part in the exercise, with the Norwegian hosts expecting participants from 14 nations".

"Exercise Nordic Response will give allies the opportunity to learn how to operate across this vast and complicated environment, test new equipment and tactics, ultimately preparing them to work and fight seamlessly alongside each other."

Members of the UK Commando Force were brushing up on their winter driving skills by hitting the frozen roads in the Arctic Circle in November.

Watch: Commandos hit frozen Arctic roads during cold weather driver training.

Personnel from the Commando Logistic Regiment put themselves and their vehicles to the test at Camp Viking in Norway, practising driving both military and civilian vehicles – getting to grips with the challenges faced when negotiating the tricky sub-zero conditions.

The main part of the Nordic Response exercise activities are expected to take place in the northern Nordic region from 3-14 March.
