1,000lb WWII Bomb Detonated Off Tyneside Coast

A Second World War bomb has been detonated off the Tyneside coast.

A fishing boat pulled up the 1,000lb device, which contained 286lb of high explosive, when it was about three miles out to sea.

It's thought the bomb was jettisoned by an RAF bomber during the war.

Royal Navy bomb disposal divers examined the device and found it still posed a threat.

It was eventually detonated off the coast at Whitley Bay.
