94-Year-Old Former Spitfire Pilot Takes To The Skies Again

A former Spitfire pilot has taken to the skies in the classic fighter plane once again, 60 years after he last flew in one.

94-year-old Allan Scott flew in the Battle of Britain and the Siege of Malta in 1942.

Former Spitfire pilot gets a surprise trip

Built in late 1941, and delivered early the next year to RAF Wood Vale in Lancashire, the Spitfire was used by Polish fighter pilots during the Second World War.

Unlike modern-day aircraft, everything on the Spitfire was manually-controlled.

The plane was known for its ease of handling while flying - but take-off and landing were trickier.

It was also at a disadvantage to the German Messerschmitt Bf 109s, which carried cannons - the Spitfire only had machine guns.
