Argentina's Ambassador Summoned For "Dressing Down"

Argentina's ambassador to the UK has reportedly been summoned to the Foreign Office for a "dressing down".

According to Sky News it follows a threat by Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner to prosecute UK oil companies drilling in the waters off the Falkland Islands.

The Argentinian president's latest sabre-rattling came during a speech on the 33rd anniversary of the conflict.

The UK government is said to have found the comments "unreasonable".

Three British companies are currently involved in oil and gas exploration in the region. With Falkland Oil and Gas Ltd and Premier Oil Plc announcing earlier this month they'd discovered significant reserves.

In March the Defence Secretary Michael Fallon laid out plans to increase the British military presence on the islands.

A move to which President Kirchner responded "Don't spend another pound on defending the Malvinas"

"Spend your money feeding the English, on providing jobs for your young people and a better quality of life for the British.. because we are not a threat to anyone."
