BFBS Radio's Hal Smashes Guinness World Record
BFBS Radio's Hal Stewart has broken a Guinness World Record.
Radio stations across the country were given the opportunity to break four specific records to mark Guinness World Record Day.
Guinness World Records adjudicators Sofia Greenacre and Mark McKinley linked up over the phone.
Angie attempted 'Most Beatles Songs Identified From Their Lyrics In A Minute'. She answered 15 correctly which was just shy of an attempt set earlier in the day by another radio station.
Hal attempted 'Most Film Quotes Identified Consecutively' and got 100 out of 100, a new World Record. Hal said:
"I've been preparing for this moment my entire life. I watch far too many movies and would definitely describe myself as a film buff. This is also the only time I can describe myself as buff without people laughing. I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed the whole experience even though it was tense and nerve wracking! I'm just delighted to win a World Record for BFBS, roll on next year."
The other two options were 'Most Elvis Songs Identified From His Lyrics In A Minute' and 'Most Animal Species Identified From Animal Sounds In One Minute' (Current Guinness World Record Holder Laurence Whitaker, BBC Radio York - 11)
Some of the rules Hal had to stick to...
- For the purposes of the record, a film quote is defined as one of the American Film Institute's list titled "AFI's 100 Years... 100 Movie Quotes"
- The challenger may not have any access to the list of film quotes during the attempt, and must recall the correct film solely from memory.
- The challenger has five seconds from the final word of the quote to begin identifying the film's title.
- Only once the film has been correctly identified, the witness may read out the next film title.
- If an incorrect title is given, then the attempt ends at that point.
- If the correct title is not given within the 5 second timeframe, then the attempt ends at that point.
