British Troops Chosen To Save Endangered Elephants

After Prince Harry joined the war against rhino poachers in South Africa, a squad of British troops based in Northern Ireland have also joined a similar fight on the continent.

2 RIFLES have started training wildlife rangers in Central Africa following a request by the president of Gabon to help the country clamp down on elephant poachers.

More than 11,000 forest elephants have been killed in Gabon since 2004, according to figures from the government and animal conservation groups.

They blame the deaths on high demand for jewellery and other ivory products in Asia.

Gabon is home to at least 40-thousand forest elephants, around half of all those still left in Africa.
