Call For Help To Find Bomber Command Veterans' Missing Medals
Residents in the historic county of Lincoln have been arming themselves with metal detectors to aid in the search for a set of missing medals belonging to a Second World War Veteran.
93 year old Donald Nicholson, from Houghton-le-Spring, lost his medals whilst travelling to a memorial event in Lincoln on Friday which recognised the heroic efforts of airmen who lost their lives during World War II.
Donald is offering a reward of £350 for the safe return of his priceless medals.
Mr Nicholson fears they may have fallen off at some point along the journey from his home in the north-east to the memorial in Lincoln.
The post has been shared more than 5,000 times, with the appeal also featuring in national press.
Nicky Barr, director of the Bomber Command project, said to lose them on such a special day was "heartbreaking".
Donald’s great niece Rachel Clayton wrote on Facebook: “I know many people helped search on Friday but the medals may have been trampled into the ground and not found because of this. Would anyone be able to arrange for a search with a metal detector to take place on the site?
“I would be very grateful, as would Mr Nicholson himself.”
